The final round of the event was held on Saturday, with only 38 players. Interestingly, Brian Piccioli, an American, was in the lead when the final round started but eventually languished in the 23rd spot. Wenling Gao (China) came in second in the final standings, and Tyler Rueger (US) took the 3rd position. 

In the final hand, Stoyan cracked the 2nd place finisher’s pocket aces with a straight, and Gao ended up in the second position with total earnings of USD 2.7 million. Tyler came in 3rd with winnings of USD 1.9 million, and the fourth position was taken by another American, Thomas Ward, who took home USD 1.35 million.

The online edition of the WSOP was held over two legs. The first leg was held in July on WSOP.com for the physically located Nevada/New Jersey players. The 2nd leg was an international series held on GGPoker.com from 19th July for the physically located outside the US’s boundaries. So in the 2nd leg, the US citizens had to travel to Canada or Mexico to play the events on GGPoker.

However, there is a restriction of a maximum capacity of 25%. Moreover, everyone entering the casino is required to wear a mask. The casino operators are instructed to maintain at least 6 feet distance between the slot machines available. The table games are not approved by the state yet. But the casinos will make a plea again after ensuring a necessary social distancing between individual players.

This reopening is only in context with the commercial casinos. As the tribal gaming operators are the state’s sovereign entities, they don’t fall under these restrictions and they already re-started operations in June. However, the casino owners pushed the authorities to accept the re-open proposal in the wake of saving around thousands of jobs. Everyone is hoping for a recovery in the economy, even if it is a sedate one.

Both card rooms are not among the poker hotspots in Las Vegas. These destinations are instead some small-time casinos that offer only a limited table area for poker.

Westgate has only eight poker tables and adds a few more on the weekends. It has rarely had its poker card room packed. Silver Sevens is also a mid-sized casino located at the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. It has fewer tables, compared to Westgate.  Their reopenings, however, will provide Las Vegas poker players some options and getting back to their lifestyle. The Las Vegas city is trying to rebuild its live poker scene by reopening such small establishments one by one. The main poker destinations in Las Vegas continue to stay closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 crisis.

By early-2021, more than 50% of Las Vegas poker rooms could be reopened. The global health pandemic will compel major establishments to stay shut.
